Cleansing is the foundation everything else builds on. A good cleanser dissolves the day: makeup, sunscreen, excess oil, sweat, and pollution sitting on the skin's surface. Starting with a clean canvas means every product layered after can actually reach the skin instead of sitting on top of buildup — and using the wrong cleanser (too harsh, too stripping) is one of the most common reasons skin stays irritated or dry.
A toner (or facial mist) is the reset button after cleansing.
